Before You Install an AppExchange Package

Before You Install an AppExchange Package

Before you install a managed package from AppExchange, review any limits or requirements, and consider trying a Test Drive first.

          Take a Test Drive

A test drive is a fully functional Developer Edition Salesforce environment that contains the managed package. Go to AppExchange, find a solution, and click Test Drive to try out the solution before you install it.

          Verify Requirements

Every package has its own requirements. To verify that a package is compatible with your Salesforce org, review any requirements listed in the solution’s listing.

          Understand Edition and Org Limits

Consider how installing a managed package impacts edition and org limits in each of these scenarios.

Scenario Impact on Edition or Org Limit
Custom objects, custom fields, tabs, and apps from a managed package installed from AppExchange. These components don’t count against your edition allocation, but they do count against the total limit for your Salesforce org.
Custom objects, custom fields, tabs, and apps from a managed or unmanaged package not publicly listed on AppExchange. Custom objects, custom fields, tabs, and apps count against the allocation for your Salesforce edition.
Components from an expired or suspended managed package. Custom fields in an expired or suspended package count against the custom field limit for your Salesforce edition. To fix this issue, reactivate your license or uninstall the package.
Data stored in the records associated with custom objects in managed packages. Record data counts against your org’s data storage limit.
