By encrypting sensitive data, you build extra layers of data protection and work toward
meeting compliance and regulatory requirements. The Shield Extension managed package includes
the Platform Encryption Analyzer, a tool for identifying and assessing fields that are suitable
for field-level encryption. It simplifies the encryption process and helps you implement your
encryption policies faster.
Required Editions
Available in: Enterprise, Unlimited, and Developer Editions
with the Salesforce Shield or Salesforce Shield Platform Encryption add-on
subscription.
With the Platform Encryption Analyzer, select and analyze fields for compatibility with
field-level encryption. The detailed analysis applies one of four categories to each field:
All Clear (ready for encryption), Blocked by Configuration
(requires adjustments), Blocked by Platform (can't be encrypted due to
platform limitations), and Encrypted by Shield (already encrypted). With this
information, identify which configurations impact blocked fields and know where to go to make
them encryptable. Analyzing fields for compatibility before you start saves you time when
setting up your encryption policy.
You can also use Sensitivity Level and Compliance Category filters to focus on the most
sensitive fields. This analysis lets you make smart choices about which fields to encrypt and
which to leave out from field-level encryption, based on your company's needs. For instance,
an admin sees that the Credit Card Number field value is All Clear and can be
encrypted, but the Social Security Number field value is Blocked by
Configuration and requires adjustments before encryption. The admin can then adjust
the necessary settings and encrypt the Social Security Number field. This strategy ensures the
operational integrity of the Salesforce environment while safeguarding critical data.
