Each Salesforce org comes with the default capability of tracking up to 20 fields per
object. When you turn on Field Audit Trail, you can configure up to 200 fields per object
for tracking.
History Retention Policy Manager
In the History Retention Policy Manager, you can manage the tracking and retention of field
history across supported objects.
With this tool, you can identify and track sensitive fields using automated visual
indicators and filtering. This helps pinpoint high-risk fields to ensure they are properly
tracked.
Additionally, you can control data retention by setting archive and retention periods. This
aids in complying with audit and compliance requests and reduces the risk of long-term
exposure of sensitive data. The centralized location of the History Retention Policy Manager
also helps you comply with changes in regulatory requirements.
Furthermore, you can monitor changes by viewing previous snapshots of history retention
policies. This enables audit trails and demonstrates compliance efforts.
Field History Explorer
The Field History Explorer feature complements Field Audit Trail. Using this feature, you
can search for a specific record to view history changes for all tracked fields on that
record. The information provides a detailed audit trail, showing who changed what and when.
This can be important for looking into suspicious activities related to data changes.
Using the Over Time, By Field, and By Use views, you can find and understand change
patterns. These views help you identify possible security breaches or unauthorized
access.
You can also revert changes directly within the Field History Explorer, quickly correcting
errors or undoing unauthorized modifications, thus minimizing potential damage or data
loss.
