|Description||Why can't I pull information from the account page when I am creating a Mail Merge on another object, such as cases, opportunities or a custom object?|
|Resolution||The Mail Merge function cannot process multiple objects. One may merge data to a mail merge document from the object where the merge button was pressed, as well from the contact detail page.
For example, when data is loaded from a custom object, one can pull data from the contact detail object and the custom object where the merge button was pressed. In this scenario, one cannot load the account address, as that field is not located in the contact object.
The exception to this is if there is a master detail relationship between the two objects. However you can only bring in both objects fields if you do the merge from the child record. (This makes sense as the master could have several children but they would all have the same merge field name, and it would not be able to tell the difference between them.)
A work around as in email templates is to create a field that is not seen on the page layout but is a cross object field that brings in the values of the other object.
