Script error: "An error has occurred in the script on this page. Error: The value of the property '' is null or undefined, not a Function object"

Description After installing Salesforce for Outlook (SFO)  you may receive a script error message when the SFO login window appears.

Resolution To resolve this issue you can try the following

1- Clear the Internet Explorer cache /Browsing History 

1- Close Salesforce for Outlook by right clicking on the SFO icon in the System tray and click on Exit

2- Close all your browsers and other applications and open Internet Options by clicking on Start and typing in Inetcpl.cpl and pressing Enter

* You can also press and hold down the Windows key on your keyboard + R (Run box will open) and then type in  inetcpl.cpl and press Enter

3- Depending on the version of Internet Explorer you have on your machine, the options may vary.
On the General tab, in Browser history section, click on the “Delete” button and make sure the first box is unchecked, and the boxes for “Temporary Internet files and websites files”, “Cookies and website data”, and “History” are checked and then click on Delete

4- Close Internet Explorer

5- Run SFO and try to login

* If the steps above do not work, try resetting the Internet Explorer settings.

Please Note: Consult with your IT team if you are not too sure about proceeding further. Resetting Internet Explorer is not reversible and all previous settings are lost after the reset.

Note the Home Page URL(s) on the General tab under Home Page

  1. Manually open the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box
    1. Close all Internet Explorer and Explorer windows that are currently open.
    2. Start Internet Explorer. 

      Note If you are running Windows 8.1 or Windows 8, start Internet Explorer from the desktop. Changing your settings will affect both Internet Explorer and Internet Explorer that you start from the desktop.
    3. On the Tools menu, tap or click Internet options. If you don't see the Tools menu, press Alt.
    4. In the Internet Options window, tap or click the Advanced tab.
    5. Tap or click Reset. If you're using Windows Internet Explorer 6, click Restore Default.
  2. In the Reset Internet Explorer Settings dialog box, tap or click Reset.

    Note Select the Delete personal settings check box if you also want to remove browsing history, search providers, Accelerators, home pages, Tracking Protection, and ActiveX Filtering data.
  3. When Internet Explorer finishes applying the default settings, tap or click Close, and then tap or click OK.
  4. Exit and then start Internet Explorer.
  5. Close Salesforce for Outlook and Outlook and test the Salesforce for Outlook authentication again.
