1 - Login to the Data Loader (NOTE - Must be at least Data Loader 29)
If Data Loader is not yet installed, you can obtain a copy of it by navigating to:
Non-Enhanced Setup Menu - Your Name > Setup > Data Management > Data Loader
Enhanced User Interface - Setup > Data Management > Data Loader
2 - Select the Export Button
3 - Select the User object. (See Screenshot below)
4 - Name and select the target location for the extraction file to go to.
To make it easier to access and modify, we recommend to save the file to your desktop by clicking on the browse button and selecting Desktop.
5 - Click Next.
6 - We will edit the query to only grab the information we need. From Choose the query fields (See Screenshot below)
You will see "Select Id, UserPreferencesHideS1BrowserUI FROM User" when you look at the box along the bottom with the label "The generated query will appear below. You may edit it before finishing."
7 - Set conditions find User Records where the UserPreferencesHideS1BrowserUI field is set to false.
To do this you might have to expand the Data Loader window to the right enough to see the Fields, Operation and Value fields
Once your Data Loader looks like the image below, click on the Add Condition Button.
8 - Click on Finish
Once the extraction is complete ensure you have not received any errors. If you receive any errors, correct any errors you receive and attempt to run the export again.
If you do not receive any errors simply open the extracted .CSV file using Microsoft Office or any other spreadsheet program that supports .CSV files.
Once the file is open, you will see something similar to the below image.
For Mass Removal: Change the top row's value for the UserPreferencesHideS1BrowserUI from FALSE to TRUE. With the cell still selected, click and drag from the bottom right corner of the cell straight down to make the change to TRUE for the entire column, stopping once you have reached the bottom row.
For Mass Addition: Change the top row's value for the UserPreferencesHideS1BrowserUI from TRUE to FALSE. With the cell still selected, click and drag from the bottom right corner of the cell straight down to make the change to FALSE for the entire column, stopping once you have reached the bottom row.
Now select File > Save As and rename the file to something like UserNew.
This will ensure that there is a backup of the data we're going to change in case something goes wrong.
Now we will update the User Object.
1 - Select the Update button
2: Select the User Object and choose the CSV file we're going to use.
Click the browse button and navigate to the updated .CSV file on your hard drive. Once selected, click Next.
3 - Click on the Create or Edit a Map button
4 - Auto-Match Fields to Columns button and click OK
5 - Click on Next
6 - Select the directory on your Hard Drive you wish to save the success/error files to
7 - Click Finish
If you receive any errors review the error file and make any changes that need to be made to correct the errors. If you encounter errors that you need assistance with, please create a Case with salesforce.com Support.
