Developer console cannot save classes/triggers/pages

Knowledge Article Number 000204953
Occasionally, you might find that you’re unable to save Apex classes, Apex triggers, Visualforce pages, or Visualforce components in the Developer Console. The save fails, and you see an error message similar to:

Failed to create createContainerMember for containerId=1dcXXXXXXXXXXXXXXX: An unexpected error occurred

If the issue persists, it means that you have a corrupted workspace. To confirm this, check the Progress tab. If you have a corrupted workspace, you’ll see a message like this one:

Returned wrong number of rows: 2 on xxx

Create a new Developer Console workspace.

  1. From the Developer Console, select Workspace > New Workspace.
  2. Enter a name for your new workspace, and then click OK.
  3. Delete your corrupted workspace:
 a.  From the Developer Console, select Workspace > Workspace Manager.
 b.  Highlight your corrupted workspace.
 c. Click Delete.
