If the post was made onAnd mentionsThen these people can see the post and comments

Public group Anyone with access to the person’s profile.

Private group A Other people Members of private group A.
Public group Members of private group A.
Private group B People who are members of both private group A and private group B see this mention in both group feeds. People who are members of private group B but not members of A don’t see the mention or receive any notification for it.
Unlisted group A Other people Members of unlisted group A and users with the “Manage Unlisted Groups” permission.
Public group Members of unlisted group A and users with the “Manage Unlisted Groups” permission.
Private group B People who are members of both private group B and unlisted group A, or people who have the “Modify Unlisted Groups” permission.
Record detail page Other people Everyone who is following you or this record and has access to the record sees your post in their What I Follow feed.
Public group People with sharing access to the record.
Private group People with sharing access to the record, even if they’re not a member of the private group.

The visibility of posts and comments depends on sharing access to the post. Anyone with access to the original post also has access to all subsequent comments on the post.

          Note
Note To get the best performance, access checks for mentions occur after you select a name. If the check fails, a message tells you that the mentioned user can't see the update: [Name] doesn't have access and won't see this update. The mention becomes a link. When you have access to the mentioned person, the link is to that person's profile. When you don't have access—for example, when the user is an external user—the link is to the person's user record detail page. In either case, the mention doesn't trigger a notification for the mentioned person.
