IoT Explorer Retirement

Publish Date: Apr 12, 2025
Description

What is changing?

We want to inform you that Salesforce IoT Explorer Edition is scheduled for retirement as of Winter ’21*. We will continue to honor existing contracts with end dates going beyond October 2020. However, we can no longer approve renewals or extend existing contracts.

*Currently targeted for October 2020; date subject to change

What does this mean for you?

With the Winter ’21 release, you can no longer access Salesforce IoT Explorer Edition, including orchestrations and contexts in Setup. Events no longer trigger orchestrations to execute. Also, Event Insights (formerly IoT Insights) no longer include orchestration variables.

Why is Salesforce retiring IoT Explorer?

We want to continue to improve our IoT signal-handling capabilities. Focusing on the ease of use and the power of Lightning Flow provides customers access to new functionality via the platform and, with continued growth, positions them well moving forward. We are making significant technology investments in Lightning Flow that will be leveraged across many cloud products and, therefore, accessible via IoT with Flow.

What do you recommend?

We know that retiring a capability you’ve been using can be disruptive. Consider using Lightning Flow and custom objects to replace the IoT functionality. No add-on is required because Lightning Flow is part of the platform license that comes with most Salesforce editions. Use platform events to trigger processes and flows to perform actions. How can I tell whether my users are impacted?

Look at IoT orchestrations for users that will be affected, including users of IoT Insights (as orchestration data may show up there).
