Missing zip codes in Maps Shape layers

This article explains why some zip codes don't appear when creating a Shape layer in Salesforce Maps, and how to check whether a specific zip code is supported.

Why This Happens

Some missing zip codes are PO Box zip codes, or zips not associated with a geographic boundary.

Salesforce Maps only supports standard zips that correlate to real world geographic boundaries. PO Box zips and unique zips used for a specific company or organization that do not have a boundary are not included in Salesforce Maps Shape Layers.

How to Verify a Zip Code

For a complete list of zips in any given state, use the United States Zip-codes database website (linked in Additional Resources):

• Search for the desired state and submit.
• Click "View a list of Zip codes in… " to see the full list of Standard Zips (those with geographic boundaries included in Salesforce Maps Shape Layers) and PO Box Zips (not included).
• These are shown in the Type column.
• You can download the list or copy and paste it into Excel if needed.

The USPS Zip Look Up tool (also linked in Additional Resources) is another useful resource for determining if a zip is a standard or PO Box zip.
