When using Salesforce Outlook Integration or Gmail Integration, email attachments are stored in Salesforce as Files. The behavior differs based on the integration type, the email representation used (Tasks vs. Enhanced Emails), and the Salesforce experience (Classic vs. Lightning Experience).
Gmail Integration always represents Gmail emails as Salesforce Enhanced Email records. Gmail email attachments are stored in Salesforce as Files on the Enhanced Email record. To make attachments visible in Salesforce, you may need to expose the Files section on the Enhanced Email and/or Task page layout. See the Additional Resources section for guidance.
Salesforce Outlook Integration offers two ways to represent Outlook emails in Salesforce:
When emails are logged as Tasks, attachments are stored on the Task record. The location where Files appear in Salesforce depends on whether you are using Classic or Lightning Experience.
Enhanced Emails is the preferred and recommended representation for Outlook emails. It gives Outlook users the additional option of logging an email into Salesforce while composing it in Outlook — on top of logging emails from the Outlook inbox and sent items folders.
To enable Enhanced Emails, a Salesforce administrator must:
Once enabled, Outlook email attachments are stored as Files on the Salesforce Enhanced Email record.
Note: This article applies to both Salesforce Classic and Lightning Experience. How Files appear in Salesforce may differ by experience and by the email representation used (Tasks vs. Enhanced Emails).
To configure your Salesforce layout to display Files from logged emails, navigate to the page layout settings for the relevant record type (Enhanced Email or Task) and add the Files related list. Depending on the experience in use, Files may appear in the Attachments section or the Files section of the email page layout.
If you need help managing page layouts or locating files from logged emails, contact Salesforce Support and log a Support Case.
