Account created after the lead conversion does not have 'Type' field populated with Nonprofit Success Pack (NPSP)

With the Nonprofit Success Pack (NPSP)  Household Account Model when a Contact is created, it automatically creates an Account and also sets value for a field called 'Type' as 'Household'. The same does not happen when the Contact and Household Account are created upon Lead Conversion.

When a Lead is Converted, NPSP code first creates the Account as a placeholder conventional Account and then later in the transaction it changes it to be a Household Account and applies Household naming. Because it gets initially created as a conventional Account the code does not set the Account.Type field. This is working as designed.

Reproduction steps:
  1. Create a Lead
  2. Click 'Convert'  and again click Convert button to convert the Lead to a Contact.
  3. Go to the Household record created after the conversion.
  4. Look for the field called 'Type' and notice this is blank.

Workaround

If an Organization wants to set value for the 'Type' field for Household Accounts that is created after the Lead conversion, we recommend using Custom Flows. For more information please refer to the links below:
