WhatsApp Business Platform - Official Business Accounts (Blue Checkmark Badge)

NOTE: Previously, only Official Business Accounts could have their approved display name appear in chats with customers. Now this will be enabled for all businesses that have passed business verification, regardless of whether they have a blue checkmark badge. This has decreased the significance of the OBA/blue checkmark badge designation.

If your WhatsApp account is an official business account there will be a blue checkmark badge beside the displayed name in the contacts view. It means WhatsApp has verified that an authentic, notable brand owns this account.

The criteria for WhatsApp Official Business Accounts (OBA) is based on a number of factors and is different from policies on other platforms. In addition to following WhatsApp's Commerce and Business Policies, businesses need to be:

  • Notable: Represents a well-known business, often searched brand or entity
    • 5 supporting links from renowned publications with sizable audiences (e.g., India Today, Economic times, Wall Street Journal, Reuters, Wikipedia, Business Insider).
    • Avoid submitting paid or promotional content such as Business or App listings as these will not be taken into consideration.
  • Verified: Has gone through Business Verification, and
  • 2FA: Has set up two-step verification.

To request the Official Business Account status for your channel, please refer to the detailed instructions here.

NOTE
Once a display name is OBA approved, any change in the Display Name requires opening a case with Salesforce support with the following information:

  • WhatsApp Business ID
    • To find the ID of a WhatsApp Business Account, go to Business Manager > Business Settings > Accounts > WhatsApp Business Accounts. Find the account you want to use and click on it. A panel opens, with information about the account, including the ID.
  • WhatsApp Business Account (WABA) ID
    • To find the WABAID, along with the Business Name, Verification & Account Status, navigate to Accounts > WhatsApp Accounts > Select the desired Account.
  • Business Name
  • Business Verification
  • Account Status
  • The new, desired Display Name

Problems with Official Business Accounts

Official Business Account status can be rejected for a number of reasons, including:

  • Business has not completed Business Verification
  • The brand does not surpass the notability threshold according to Meta’s standards
  • If you’ve requested another OBA on another channel, even if it was successful. Only one OBA request per 30 day period will be considered

Please note, you can still use all WhatsApp features regularly, even if you have had your OBA request rejected by Meta.

Unfortunately, Salesforce has no ability to impact decisions related to Official Business Account status. These decisions cannot be appealed, though you may reapply after 30 days if you believe your brand’s notability has increased substantially in that time.

To get further details on an Official Business Account rejection, you can open a case with Salesforce support with the following information:

    • To find the WABAID, along with the Business Name, Verification & Account Status, navigate to Accounts > WhatsApp Accounts > Select the desired Account.
  • Business Name
