In Salesforce, setup objects store org-level configuration and require the “View Setup and Configuration” permission for access. Due to platform security restrictions, this permission cannot be assigned to External users.
OmniStudio Data Mapper operates in user context and strictly enforces setup object access rules. Consequently, External users cannot query setup objects—such as Named Credentials, Custom Settings, or Custom Metadata—using Data Mapper.
Implement an Apex class that runs in system context to access the required setup objects. This approach should be used only when necessary and must not be considered a way to bypass standard security controls. Prior to implementation, review the design with your security and architecture teams to ensure alignment with governance and security policies.
