The process for connecting Salesforce to an MCP server depends on the source of the
server. Third-party MCP servers are connected using the Agentforce Registry, and Mulesoft and
Salesforce-hosted servers are connected using API Catalog.
Standard: Determined by Salesforce Custom: Select and add tools from APIs. Add
prompts using Prompt Builder. NOTE Agentforce agents currently support MCP tools
only.
Note Salesforce-hosted MCP servers are only available in API Catalog. Other MCP servers and
APIs connected to Salesforce in API Catalog can be viewed in API Catalog or the Agentforce
Registry, but they can only be managed in API Catalog. MCP Servers connected to Salesforce
through the Agentforce Registry can be viewed in the Agentforce Registry or API Catalog, but
they can only be managed in the Agentforce Registry.
When you connect an MCP server to Salesforce through Agentforce Registry or API Catalog, you
allowlist the individual server tools you want to use with Agentforce. The tools are added to
the Agentforce asset library as agent actions and are available to add to an agent, just like
any other agent action.
