Considerations for Incremental Refreshes to Event Monitoring Analytics App Datasets

Considerations for Incremental Refreshes to Event Monitoring Analytics App Datasets

Keep these considerations in mind when you configure your app to incrementally refresh datasets.

          Required Editions

Available in both Salesforce Classic (not available in all orgs) and Lightning Experience.

Available in: Enterprise, Performance, and Unlimited Editions

Requires Salesforce Shield or Salesforce Event Monitoring add-on subscriptions.

          • File uploads for some datasets end with the - Overwrite under the Origin column in Data Manager. This name change happens when event log file events have schema changes across release boundaries, such as when a new field is added. In response, datasets make a full update with a one-time overwrite process. Incremental dataset updates then resume the following day. To remove the - Overwrite suffix from your upload name, upgrade or reconfigure your app and reenable the Add only new event log file data to existing datasets? configuration.

The - Overwrite suffix can also appear when you enable time zone support. If you use time zone support, schedule your dataflow to run daily.

          • For large datasets, the daily dataflow runtime for incremental dataset updates takes longer than full dataset updates. Update and reconfigure actions trigger the dataflow to run, which means that app upgrade and reconfigure processes also take longer.
          • Incremental dataset refreshes delete raw data from datasets.
          • The append dataflow deletes all data in the dataset that supplies your app with new data, regardless of the specified retention period. For example, if the Login dataset is the source dataset, running the append dataflow populates the LoginWithUsers dataset and resets the row count of the Login dataset to zero. The retention period doesn’t apply to the source dataset data.
          • Dataset API names are generated dynamically during app creation. We recommend that you don’t couple integrations with the Event Monitoring Analytics app with dataset API names.
