            Pivot Table Functional Constraints and Technical Requirements

            While pivot tables are essential for summarizing data, their performance and display are subject to specific technical constraints and configuration requirements. The information in the table defines the availability of certain calculation features and the behavior of interactive elements. Understanding these established boundaries makes sure that the resulting pivot tables remain accurate and functional.

            Totals & Subtotals
            • Subtotals and totals only appear if you pivot on a field other than the compound date. They're incompatible with Compact Form 1.0 in time zone-enabled orgs.
            • Subtotals function when sorting within groups but fail when sorting across groups.
            • Row totals are unavailable if the underlying query uses an aggregate filter or window function formula.
            • Query limits can restrict column total accuracy whenever the record count exceeds the specified limit.
            • Subtotals and totals don't function properly in CRM Analytics Direct Data.
            Expand and Collapse Explorer Mode Behavior
            • Position a hidden column before a pivoted column to preserve the pivot structure.
            • Expand and collapse interactions permanently change the subtotal query.
            • Hiding or showing dimensions in Explorer Mode can result in inaccurate subtotals due to Explorer Mode's flexibility. Re-enabling subtotals fails if columns remain hidden, as expand and collapse requires full visibility.
            Expand and Collapse Preview Mode Behavior
            • Refreshing the page resets all expand and collapse interactions.
            • When "Enable Expand or Collapse" is on, the pivoted column remains pivoted while in preview.
            Expand and Collapse Limitations

            • Expand and collapse is available for CRM Analytics datasets and isn’t compatible with other data sources.

            • Requires queries built in Compact Form 2.0 with datasets as the data source.

            • Turn on Enable Subtotals for the feature to function.

            • Incompatible with queries that use data blending or semi-anti joins, as subtotals don't operate accurately in these modes.

            • Expand and collapse don't function properly when measures or dimensions change through dynamic projections or interactions.

            • When a collapsed date group expands, it deconstructs into individual date parts, such as a Year+Month group expanding into separate Year and Month.
