Subtotal Considerations for Tables
The ability to expand and collapse rows, often seen in table widget types such as compare and pivot, depends on the presence and proper display of subtotals. This means that the ability to expand and collapse rows within these tables is closely linked to how subtotals are configured and rendered. And, if subtotals are turned off in a table widget, hiding the first row or column can make the entire table disappear.
What Can Happen When Subtotals Are Disabled
If subtotals are turned off for any field within a table, a critical dependency for the table's internal grouping mechanism is removed. The presence and integrity of subtotals is integral to the visibility of individual rows. Without this basic data, the table won't work well if users expand or collapse rows. This can also cause problems with how the table looks, table organization, or the table is completely hidden.
Expanding or Collapsing Rows and Subtotals
To avoid this issue, keep subtotals enabled for all dimensions to expand or collapse rows. If it’s necessary to turn off subtotals, avoid collapsing the first dimension.
