Get Started Faster with Data Templates
Salesforce Data Pipelines use purpose built data templates for common use case data tasks to accelerate your ROI. These data templates generate the necessary data connectors, data prep recipes, and queries for apps that can be scheduled to run regularly.
Required Editions
| Available in Salesforce Classic and Lightning Experience. |
| Available with CRM Analytics, which is available for an extra cost in Enterprise, Performance, and Unlimited Editions. Also available in Developer Edition. |

| To view, edit, or delete templated data assets: | Analytics View Only Embedded App and Analytics View Only User |
Data templates are ready-made data manipulation processes ready to be deployed in a matter of clicks. Data templates exist to provide customers with simple, straightforward ways to get the most out of their data. They’re designed to do the heavy lifting for the most common data use cases so you can focus your attention on the results rather than the process. Data templates unlock the true power of data for the customer to deliver immediate value and results.
Data templates span clouds and verticals.
Data Template Scenarios
Scenario 1: Data Augmentation
A company uses Salesforce for CRM data and Workday for HR data. To create more comprehensive datasets, the company wants to join some employee data from Workday with CRM data.
- Current Workflow: You export Salesforce data, export Workday data, and join them using SQL or Excel. You repeat this process each time you want fresh data.
- New Workflow: You use a data template to generate data assets that combine the data. The template uses Salesforce Data Pipelines to sync local Salesforce data, import Workday data via a connector, and join the datasets in a Data Prep recipe. You schedule the local and remote data sync, and recipe, for this dataset to update automatically.
Scenario 2: Metric Calculations
A company uses Salesforce to store opportunity and quota data. The company’s Sales Strategy team wants to calculate PipelinesCoverage, which is defined as the amount of Open Pipe divided by the amount remaining to be Closed Won. The PipelinesCoverage metric is a commonly used indicator for business health and result forecasting.
- Current Workflow: You export the Salesforce Open Pipe report, Salesforce Closed Won report, and quota file, and then calculate in Excel or Google Sheets manually or with a cover sheet.
- New Workflow: You use a data template to generate data assets that import and calculate the data. The template imports the report data and the quota file and uses a Data Prep recipe to join the data and calculate the PipelinesCoverage.
Scenario 3: Data Cleanup
A company switched over to using Salesforce as its CRM data system. Before the switch, the company kept all its contact data in Google Sheets and Excel files, all with different owners, and maintained in different formats. You must get all the data into Salesforce in a clean and uniform way.
- Current Workflow: You manually scrub the data using Excel and import using a tool like Data Loader.
- New Workflow: You use a data template to generate data assets that import the data, use Data Prep recipes to clean the data, and output the data to Salesforce.
To match the requirements of different use cases, data templates have three levels of functionality.
| Level | Description | Use Cases |
|---|---|---|
| Basic | Simple data editing and calculations |
|
| Intermediate | More advanced data manipulation |
|
| Advanced | Ready made rigorous analysis |

- Data Template Features
Data templates are similar to app templates, with a few key differences. - Create Data Assets from a Data Template
Follow these general procedures when you create data assets from any data template. Before you use a template, see the help for the Data Template that you want to use for requirements and instructions specific to that template. - Available Data Templates
Data templates provide simple data editing and calculations, advanced data manipulation, and rigorous analysis out of the box. To get started, see the instructions and specific details for each template by following these links.
