Coupon Best Practices for B2C Commerce

Coupon Best Practices for B2C Commerce

Consider these recommended practices for coupon use with your B2C Commerce storefront.

Review Coupon Validation Messages at Checkout

Different messages appear when a shopper enters a coupon code. In addition to the default messages, you can customize messages. For example:

          • Coupon code name is in your cart.
          • Coupon code name can't be combined with other coupon code in your cart.

          Test Coupons

          • Test coupons you've assigned to campaigns and promotions. This task is important because you can enable new coupons live in production.

          Implement a Coupon Workflow

Develop a workflow for the definition, review, and creation of coupons. Ask yourself these questions:

          • Who creates coupons in your company?
          • Who is managing coupons after they go live?
          • What are the specific time-lines and deadlines for coupon expiration?

Use Incremental Imports of Coupons from External Systems

B2C Commerce supports incremental updates to the set of existing single and multi-code coupons. Incremental updates are useful for coupon codes you imported from external systems. For example, if an external system provides 1000 new codes per month, incremental updates are beneficial.

Import Coupons to a Staging Environment

Import coupons and their codes in a staging instance and then replicate them. Avoid importing and creating coupons directly into a production instance.

Manage Who Edits and Views Coupons

For increased security, limit who can edit coupons and view coupon codes. Use coupon masking and grant read-only permission for the coupon module to roles that require access. Coupon masking hides the coupon codes in the coupon module and can be turned on by enabling the View_Coupon_Codes permission.
