Base Product and Variation Group Scenarios
The following scenarios describe different ways to present variation groups in your storefront. This topic applies to B2C Commerce.
To create the main and variation products used in the scenarios, follow the steps in Base Products for Scenarios.
Scenario 1: Group and Sort Products in a Category by Color
Show products in a category based on color. For example, show swimsuit tops and bottoms together by color or accessories organized by color. In this scenario, you configure the T-shirt (TS) product to have a variation group based on size. Then you assign the variation groups, but not the base product, to the category.
Scenario 2: Assign Products to Slot Configuration Based on Color
In this scenario, you configure the T-shirt (TS) product to appear in three color variations. When you slice, the online variations products appear instead of the base product. You can show a different image for each variation of product, for example a coat in many colors. To show the different images, make the attribute a slicing attribute.
Scenario 3: Assign Color Variation to Recommendation
In This scenario, you configure the t-shirt product so that swatches for all available variations appear in a recommendation, whether they are assigned to the category or not. The scenario assumes the T-shirt (TS) product is set up for slicing. See Scenario 2 for more information. For more information about variation slicing by category.
Scenario 4: Show Swatches in One Category and Sliced Variations in Another Category
In this scenario, you configure the T-shirt (TS) product to show a single image with swatches in the sale category and search results, but with sliced variations in the Women's Tops category. The search results determine slicing from the default on the Product page Variations tab. The sale category uses the default, while the Women's Top category overrides the default to allow slicing.
Scenario 5: Show Variation Groups, Variation Products, and Base Products with Swatches in a Category
This scenario assigns blue and green variations to the Women's Top category and the amber variation to the sale category. If you worked through Scenario 4, skip assigning the product to the sale category.
