          Multi-Factor Authentication Options

The option to exclusively use the Salesforce Authenticator is being replaced with the option to select from a number of different multi-factor authentication (MFA) options. The Salesforce Authenticator is still the default form of authentication.

When: This feature will roll out between October 18 and October 20.

How: Most users don't need to change their settings for this release. However, if your organization uses Resource Owner Password Grant, follow these steps to avoid MFA failures.

          Note
Note Due to the expiration of a CA root certificate on September 30, 2021, some users may experience MFA failure starting on October 18, 2021. The failure is linked to browsers or operating systems that are not set to allow the automatic update of the trusted root certificate. Users can refer to this knowledge article for clarification and steps to avoid authentication failure.
