Create Attributes for Product Variations in B2B Stores
An attribute identifies a specific product feature, such as size or color. Because a product can have multiple attributes, you can group attributes into an attribute set and then apply the set to one or more products rather than assign individual attributes. Using attribute sets provides consistency across products.

Which Salesforce Commerce Product Do I Have?
To create an attribute set, first create individual product attributes, and then group them into a set that you apply to a particular product. For example, the variation parent product is ice cream, and it can use the attributes of flavor, type, and volume. If you group these attributes into a set, you can associate one attribute set rather than three. You can include up to five variation attributes in an attribute set.
-
Create a product attribute.
Each product variation requires a unique attribute value.
- In the navigation sidebar, select a store from the Store dropdown.
- Select Settings | Product.
- Click Product Attribute and then click New.
- Select a display type, and enter a name and label for the attribute, for example, Color.
- Add an attribute option, for example, Blue. To add more options, click Add Value.
- Arrange the attribute options in the order you want or sort them alphabetically.
- Click Create.
After saving, if you want to delete or reorder attributes, go toObject Manager | Product Attributes | Fields & Relationships.
-
Group the attributes for the product into an attribute set.
- Click Variation Attribute Sets.
- Click New.
- Enter a name and description for the attribute set.
- Move up to five attributes to the Selected Fields column, and arrange them in the order that you want them to appear.
-
For Group By, select the attribute you want to use to organize the display of
product search results, and save your changes. See Options for Displaying Product Variation Search
Results.
If you want customers to see product variations in search results grouped by a specific attribute, select that attribute in the Group By field. For example, if you want to show variations grouped by color, select Color in the Group By field. The way variation products are displayed in search results is also influenced by the settings you select in Product Variation in the search Additional Settings tab. On that page, you have three options for how you want the products to be displayed:
-
Show all product variations
-
Show parent product only
-
Show best match product only
For more information about these settings, see Configure How to Display Product Variation Search Results and Options for Displaying Product Variation Search Results.
This table shows combinations you can create with the Group By field and the Product Variation Display Settings.
