Use Case: Offer Tiered Discounts to Boost Sales and Clear Inventory

Encourage customers to increase their average order value in your D2C store by offering tiered discounts.Use this strategy to help improve overall sales and clear out excess inventory, especially for seasonal products.

          Required Editions

Merchandisers looking to increase the average order value and clear out excess inventory can benefit from creating tiered discounts. By doing so, they incentivize customers to purchase more from specific product categories, which helps them achieve sales goals and manage inventory effectively. In this example, we create a three-tiered promotion for an end-of-summer Alpine Energy Drinks promotion. See Add a Promotion Tier for a B2B Store.

          1. In the navigation sidebar, select a store from the Store dropdown. Select Promotions, and then select how you want to create the promotion.
          2. Enter the basic promotion details such as the name, title, display name for the tiered promotion, and active dates for the promotion.
          3. Go to the Tiers tab and add these tiers for the promotion.
            1. For Tier 1, enter 10% off $100 of Alpine Energy Drinks for the tier name. Select the promotion you want to associate the tier with, and enter 1 as the rank.
            2. For Tier 2, enter 20% off $150 of Alpine Energy Drinks for the tier name. Select the promotion you want to associate the tier with, and enter 2 as the rank.
            3. For Tier 3, enter 30% off $200 of Alpine Energy Drinks for the tier name. Select the promotion you want to associate the tier with, and enter 3 as the rank.
          4. Go to the Qualifiers tab to specify the amount that needs to be spent to qualify for the discounts within a tier rank. Select the promotion tier you're configuring. For Qualifier, select Category, and then choose the Alpine Energy Drinks category from the list. For the Qualifier Type, select Product Category. Then enter the minimum amount required for the tier: $100 for Tier 1, $150 for Tier 2, or $200 for Tier 3. See Edit What Qualifies for a Promotion for a B2B Store
          5. Go to the Discounts tab to specify the percentage discount customers get at each tier rank. Select the promotion tier you're configuring. For the Target type, select Transaction. For Target, select Category, and then choose the Alpine Energy Drinks category from the list. For Adjustment Type, select Percentage Discount. Then enter the adjustment percentage for the tier: 10% for Tier 1, 20% for Tier 2, 30% for Tier 3. Edit a Promotion Discount for a B2B Store
