Which Salesforce Commerce Product Do I Have?

A product can be simple, without any variations, like a tool. Or a product can have many variations, like an item of clothing, with each variation having its own SKU. For example, your store offers one-size-fits-all gardening gloves in one color. The gloves are a simple product without variations. You also sell shirts that come in sizes from XS to XL and several colors. Each color-size combination, such as red XS or blue XL, is a product variation, and each has its own SKU.

Let’s say someone is shopping for gloves and a shirt. You have these options for how to show product search results.

          • Show all product variations—You show simple products and each variation product individually. When the buyer searches for gloves shirt, the results page shows one pair of one-size-fits-all gloves and each color-size shirt combination.
          • Show parent product only—You show simple products and variation parent products on the initial results page. When the buyer searches for gloves shirt, the results page shows one pair of one-size-fits-all gloves, a simple product, and one shirt, the variation parent product. On the shirt parent product, buyers click a button or link that takes them to a detail page that shows all the color-size combinations.
          • Show best match product only—You show the best matching product on the initial results page. When the buyer searches for white gloves XL blue shirt, the results page shows products available that best match the search terms, such as a pair of one-size-fits-all gardening gloves, and an XL blue shirt.
          • Show group by attributes -You group products by specific attributes, such as size or color. If you group by the color attribute, when a customer searches for a product, they see one product listing for each color. All size variations of that color are grouped under that single product. For example, if a buyer searches for shirt, they see one product listing for each color of the shirt. Clicking on one of the colors takes them to a page showing all available sizes in that color. To select which attribute to group by, see Create Attributes for Product Variations in B2B Stores.
          Important
Important Pay close attention to naming conventions for parent products and their variation products. If you opt to display only the parent product, the results show the parent product name. If you choose to show only the best match, the results display either the variation product name or the parent product name, depending on which result best matches the shopper’s search. If you’re showing all the variations of the parent product, the results display the names of all the variation products .
