          Order Management Lifecycle Types

An order summary’s lifecycle type specifies whether you manage it with Order Management features.

          View supported editions.

Each order summary has one of two lifecycle types.

          Managed

          • Use the managed lifecycle type for B2C and B2B orders that are processed only by Order Management.
          • Process a managed order using built-in Order Management features, such as flow core actions and API calls.
          • Order Management automatically updates most fields on records associated with a managed order summary, including financial data fields.
          • Users can’t directly modify most fields on records associated with a managed order summary. (For details, see Object Reference in the Salesforce developer documentation.)
          • Managed order summaries count toward the number of order summaries allowed by your license.

          Unmanaged

          • Use the unmanaged lifecycle type for orders that are processed by an external system or that don’t require processing.
          • Process an unmanaged order using an external system, such as an ERP system, and update the corresponding data in Salesforce as needed.
          • You can’t use most Order Management features to process an unmanaged order.
          • Order Management doesn’t automatically calculate financial data fields on records associated with an unmanaged order summary.
          • Users with the Edit Unmanaged Order Summaries or B2B Commerce Integrator User permission can modify most fields on records associated with an unmanaged order summary. (For details, see Object Reference in the Salesforce developer documentation.)
