Manage Tax Rates and Exemptions in POS App

Manage Tax Rates and Exemptions in POS App

Store managers can show and override taxes as needed, ensuring compliance with recent tax changes and special promotions. Customers can efficiently manage tax rates and exemptions with manager approval for overrides, and customize tax visibility and breakdowns in the Retail Cloud POS app.

          • Modern POS App Build: 5.8.2 or above
          • Platform Support: iPad and iPhone. Note, iPhone POS doesn't support store-level tax override.
          • Offline Support: Yes
          • Technical Prerequisites: Point of Sale Tax Service

If a store associate initiates a tax override, manager approval is required. The override remains in effect until the end of the business day.

The system also has options for showing tax details. You can show or hide tax rates, show tax indicators at the line item level, turn on or off item-level or store-level tax overrides, and show or hide detailed tax breakdowns.

          Important
Important In 2024, we're sunsetting support for the native tax engine. New customers won't be supported and existing customers should work with Salesforce to identify a tax engine by 2025. Point of Sale has connectors to support Avalara, Vertex, and Sabrix. For any other solution, we have an SPI that can be used.
          1. To configure line item tax exemptions, go to Modules | POS | Product Level Tax Exemption.
          2. To configure transaction-level tax overrides, go to Store Management | Store Settings | Tax , and turn on Tax Override Rate set for current transaction only.
          3. To configure store level tax overrides, go to Modules | POS | Tax Override.
          4. (Optional) If you have a layout for cart options, add a layout cell with a tax override deeplink configured. Go to Deeplink Picker | Cart Options | Override Tax.
          5. To show tax indicator for products, go to Modules | POS | Show Tax Indicator for Products.
          6. To hide tax rates, go to Modules | Cart | Hide tax.
          7. To show a tax breakdown in the cart summary, go to Modules | Cart | Show Multiple Tax Breakdown.
          8. Turn on POS Store settings to allow tax overrides. Go to Stores | POS Store Settings | Allow Tax Override (isTaxOverrideAllowed).
If the tax override needs to be approved by a manager, you need to set it in the associate’s approval policy. Add ‘Tax Modicfication’ under the approval policy so the manager’s approval is prompted. See Store Associate Approval Policies.
