Create a Marketing Cloud Engagement Data Action Target
Send automated emails and journeys to customers based on behavioral or transactional
event data routed from Data 360. Trigger emails and journeys to customers from
data model objects (DMOs) and calculated insights. For example, a customer purchases an item and
searches for “installation manual” on your website. You trigger an event that sends the customer
an email with a how-to video or installation instructions.
To create Marketing Cloud Engagement data action targets:
One of these permission sets:
Data Cloud Architect
Data Cloud Activation Manager
Before you create a data action target, complete these prerequisites.
Set up the Marketing Cloud Engagement connection in Data 360.
Create the email template in Content Builder through Email Studio, and complete all
mandatory fields. Use a template-based, text-only, or HTML email type.
The subscriber list in Marketing Cloud Engagement includes the subscriber key, first and
last names, and email address.
Create a data extension for Journey Builder API Events of a data action with a single
click in Data 360 without navigating to Marketing Cloud. To learn more,
see Create a Data Extension in Data 360. Or, to manually create the data
extension in Marketing Cloud, ensure that you first create the intended journey in Journey
Builder for the API Event.
Note The journey entry source must be an API Event type, and
all fields in its data extension must be nullable. The data extension attribute names
for a primary object and related object must start with the object API name of the data
model object that you selected in Data 360, followed by an underscore,
and the attribute API name. For example, Shopping_Events__dlm_deviceId__c or
Individual_deviceId__c. You can use the same data extension for primary and related
objects. If you have multiple data actions that use these objects, reuse the data
extensions.
Select the business units, and enable the mapping in Data 360.
In Data 360, go to the Data Actions Target tab, click
New.
Enter the
data
action target name.
The API Name field is automatically populated.
For the
data
action target type, select Marketing Cloud.
Select the business unit where the subscriber is present.
If multiple Marketing Cloud Engagement instances (EIDs) are connected to a Data 360 org, the business unit list shows all associated business
units.
For the destination, select either Email or Journey
Builder API Event.
Select the email template or Journey Builder API Event that you want to send when the
data action conditions are met.
If you don’t select the Journey Builder API Event, the status of the data action target
and any corresponding data action is set to draft. To set them to active, use the
automated way of creating a data extension for the data action within Data 360 and select the Journey Builder API Event for the data action
target.
To filter subscribers, select Send events only to subscribers of the
selected business unit.
Select this option if you don’t want to send an email template or journey to a
subscriber whose subscriber key isn’t mapped to the selected business unit but is
available in the parent business unit in Engagement.
Click Save.
If you modify an existing email template and want to send another email, create another data
action target with the updated email template.
