          Required Editions

Available in: All Editions supported by Data 360. See Data 360 edition availability.
          Permission Sets Needed
          To create a segment:

Any one of these permission sets:

          • Data Cloud Architect
          • Data Cloud Activation Manager
          • Data Cloud Activation Specialist
          1. In Data Cloud, click Segments.
          2. Click New.
          3. Select Use a Visual Builder.
          4. Select Standard Segment, and click Next.
          5. Enter the segment details.
            1. Select a data space.
            2. For Segment On, select the data model object (DMO) that your segment is built on.
            3. Give your segment a unique name that’s easily identifiable.
            4. Enter the lookback period for your segment.
The default is 90 days. You can set the lookback up to 2 years.  If you select Days from the dropdown, you can set a period of up to 360 days, depending on your organization’s requirements.
When creating a segment, the lookback options are based on your organization's maximum allowed period, for example, up to 2 years. This setting defines the initial data range you can select. When you're in the segment, you can apply specific criteria in a container, which may differ from the default lookback period. So, if the segment-level lookback is set to 90 days and the container criteria specifies 60 days, the container criteria takes precedence, and data is pulled for only 60 days.
          6. Click Next.
          7. Choose how to publish the segment.
With Standard Publish, you can use engagement data from the configured lookback period in segmentation rules. With Rapid Publish, you can use the last 7 days of engagement data in segmentation rules and publish to Marketing Cloud only.
          8. Define when and how often your segment publishes to activation targets.
If you plan to add segment filters, you can also select Don’t Refresh and add the schedule later.
          9. (Optional) Click Preview to view your segment audience and verify its accuracy. If you notice anomalies or missing members you expected to be included, review the segment rules and container configurations.
            Note
Note The segment preview feature is available to users with segment view or edit rules permissions and access to data in Data Explorer.
          10. Click Save.

The maximum number of segments that you can have in Salesforce is 9,950.

          • Segment On
Segment On defines the target object used to build your segment. You can choose an object marked as Profile or Engagement type during ingestion. For example, you can build a segment on Unified Individual, Unified Household, Account, Reservations, Sales Order, etc.
          • Manage Data 360 Segment Schedules
The segment scheduling options provide you with granular control over segment publish frequency. You can schedule your segments to run at the frequency that best suits your needs.
          • Publish a Segment in Data 360
After defining your segment in Data 360, you can publish it to your activation targets whenever you want or based on a schedule when the segment was created. The standard publish schedule is 12 or 24 hours. You can also change the segment schedule by editing its properties. When you’ve reached the segment publish concurrency limit, Data 360 defers the publish of other segments. This deferral continues until the number of simultaneously running segments falls below the limit. This means that a segment scheduled at a specific time sometimes doesn’t start publishing at its scheduled time.
          • Segment Membership Data Model Object
Each time you publish a segment, a data model object (DMO) is created or updated to store segment membership information. To identify who's included in a segment, use the Segment Membership DMO (type Segment_Membership). If there are no dependencies on the DMO, you can delete segment membership DMOs manually.
          • Edit a Segment
After you create a segment in Data 360, you can edit its rules or properties to provide updates or change the purpose. Changing the segment name doesn’t change the segment API name.
