Manual and Automatic Tagging in Data 360
There are two ways to apply tags to data: manual tagging and automatic tagging.
Manual Tagging
Manual tagging allows users to directly assign tags to data objects and fields. This method is precise and allows users to apply their domain knowledge, making it ideal for tagging sensitive or business-critical data where context matters.
Automatic Tagging
Automatic tagging scales this process across large datasets by generating tag suggestions using AI. In Data 360, the Suggest Tags feature uses a large language model (LLM) to look at information such as object and field names and suggests tags based on defined taxonomies. To ensure privacy, it doesn’t access or analyze customer data. Instead, it analyzes metadata to suggest relevant tags at the object and field levels. These tags aren’t applied automatically. A data steward or admin reviews and approves them to ensure that final control remains with someone who understands the business context. To further refine this process, you can add manual tags on top of the auto-suggestions.
- Apply a Tag to an Object or Field Manually
In Data 360, attach a predefined tag to a data object or field to classify it based on sensitivity, usage, or category. - Use Automatic Tag Suggestions in Data 360
Data 360 suggests tags by analyzing the metadata of objects and fields, such as their names and types. This helps streamline tagging by providing intelligent, context-aware suggestions without scanning the actual data.
