          Segment Types and Statuses

Learn more about the values provided about each segment. View details in the Segments section of Data 360, or in Publish History for a specific segment. Depending on how you create the segment, the type can be UI (created via the Segment Builder) or DBT (created via the API).

          Segment Status

The Segment Status field provides details about your segment. If you don’t get an updated status and population count after saving the segment or after a couple of minutes, click the dropdown menu and select Update Status.

          Segment Status Definition
Active Segment created and all segment functionality available
          Processing Publishing segment in progress
Recounting Recounting the segment population in progress
Error Segment is active but can’t be manually published
Inactive Segment can only be deleted

          Publish Status

The Publish Status field provides details on the segment’s publishing status to the activation target.

          Publish Status Definition
Success Segment published successfully to the activation target
Error Segment failed to publish, contact Salesforce Customer Support for help
Skipped Publishing the segment is temporarily delayed for 30 minutes due to the maximum number of segments publishing simultaneously
Publishing Publishing segment in progress, segment data from last publish is available until publishing is complete
Blank (No Status) Segment was created but not published
Deferred Segment publish time is pushed out due to exceeding the maximum number of simultaneous publishes

          Publish Schedule

The Publish Schedule determines when and how often your segment publishes to an activation target.

          Important
Important Make sure all segments with a preset publish schedule also have an activation. Segments require a publish schedule and an activation to be sent to an activation target.
          Publish ScheduleDefinition
Don’t refresh Segment not published to activation targets
1 hour Segment published every hour (Marketing Cloud Engagement and file storage targets)
4 hours Segment published every 4 hours (Marketing Cloud Engagement and file storage targets)
12 hours Segment published every 12 hours
24 hours Segment published every 24 hours

          Next Publish Date Time

The Next Publish Date Time for a segment is an estimate and can change depending upon concurrency limits and how many segments are in progress for publishing. A manual segment publish takes priority over a scheduled publish.

          Publish Type

Segments are either published on a schedule using the Publish Schedule or manually by clicking Publish Now for a segment.

          Publish Type Definition
