Metrics in Tableau Semantics
A metric is a KPI tracked over time, such as revenue over the past year. The core components of a metric are a measure or calculated field representing the KPI and a time dimension that tracks its progression over time.
For example, you can create a sales performance metric to track overall sales across all regions, helping you assess whether your business is meeting its targets over a set period.
Create metrics to have a single source of truth for all your business KPIs and to view the same metric in every dashboard, record page, or homepage of any platform.
For more granularity, you can add submetrics to a metric. For example, you can create a submetric for sales performance by product line to analyze how each product contributes to overall sales.
- Create a Metric for a Semantic Model
Create a metric to standardize how your organization measures performance. - Edit or Delete a Metric
Keep your data model current by updating metric configurations or removing them. Deleting a metric removes it from all associated reports and dashboards. - Apply a Filter to a Related Metric
Use submetrics to provide additional granularity and track more detailed performance indicators. A submetric breaks down the main metric into more specific, actionable data points.
