Get Started with Chatter

Connect with people and share business information securely in real time.

Note Beginning in Summer ’26, Chatter is turned off by default in all new orgs. For any features in these orgs that require access to Chatter functionality or the Chatter APIs, turn on Chatter by going to Setup | Chatter Settings and selecting Enable. For details, see Chatter Is Turned Off by Default in New Orgs Beginning in Summer ’26.

• Chatter Tab Overview
  The Chatter tab gives you instant access to most of the collaboration features in Chatter.
• Chatter Desktop
  Chatter Desktop is a free desktop application that lets you collaborate in Chatter without a browser. Chatter Desktop was retired in June 2018.
• The People and Records You Auto-Follow Initially
  Starting in June 2010, when your administrator initially turns on Chatter, we help get you started by automatically following certain users and records in your organization.
• Like Posts and Comments
  Like posts or comments to show your approval and receive email notifications if others comment on that post. You receive notifications only if you’ve selected to in your personal Chatter settings.
• Reply to Chatter Email Notifications
  When you receive certain email notifications, you can conveniently perform some actions by replying directly from your email.
• Navigate to Chatter Email Settings
  In your personal Chatter email settings, you can change your preferences for receiving email notifications and digests. On a group page, you can set your notification preferences for that group.
• Chatter Email Digests
  Email digests conveniently summarize recent activity in Chatter so you don’t miss important discussions. You can choose to receive daily or weekly summaries of updates from your personal feed or any group’s feed.
• Guidelines for Managing Your Personal Chatter Email Settings
  Control the number of Chatter emails that you receive by choosing your most important feeds. And set the best frequency for personal and group digests.
