Working with files in Salesforce means:

          • Posting files to Chatter feeds to collaborate with coworkers.
          • Adding files directly to records, such as Accounts, Cases, Leads, and others, to keep information right where you need it.
          • Sharing files with customers in the secure Salesforce cloud.
          • Connecting to external file systems with Files Connect.
          • Running standard and custom file reports to understand how people work with files.

All file types are supported, including everything from Microsoft® PowerPoint presentations and Excel spreadsheets, to Adobe® PDFs and image files. You can upload and download audio and video files, but you can’t parse or preview them.

          Note
Note In Internet Explorer 11, the Preview option redirects to the file detail page.

As you work with files in Salesforce, keep these file limits in mind:

          Feature Limit
Organization-wide storage Storage is based on the number of Salesforce licenses purchased. Additional storage can be purchased.
          File size
          • 10 GB when uploaded via the web interface in Lightning Experience
          • 2 GB when uploaded in Salesforce Classic or when uploaded via Chatter or Experience Cloud LWR sites
          • 100 MB when uploaded from a mobile device
Maximum number of versions per file 2,048

          • To learn who can perform which actions on a file, see Who Can See My File?.
          • Files from external repositories, such as Google Docs and Microsoft® SharePoint®, are available only if Salesforce Files Connect is configured in your organization and enabled for you.
          • Chatter feeds, groups, and the ability to follow files are available only for orgs that have Chatter enabled.
          • Files don’t require Chatter, but if your org uses profile-based Chatter rollout, users must have Chatter permissions enabled for files to be available.
          • The files and photos that your users upload count toward your org’s file storage allowance. Files uploaded on the Files tab also count toward your org’s file storage allowance.
          • Salesforce doesn't remove geolocation information from uploaded images.
