People Overview
The People tab and the People list on the Chatter tab show a list of recently viewed users in your organization. If your org has 25 people or fewer, these lists show everyone.
Required Editions
| Available in: both Salesforce Classic and Lightning Experience |
| Available in: Essentials, Group, Enterprise, Professional, Performance, Unlimited, Contact Manager, and Developer Editions |
- To view someone’s profile, click their name or photo.
- In profile view, if you want to see a person's updates in the Chatter feed, click Follow. In Lightning Experience, after you click Follow, click the plus sign next to What I Follow. In both environments, you can't follow customers.
- In profile view, to stop seeing a person's updates in the Chatter feed, click Following. In Lightning Experience, after you click Following, click the check mark next to What I Follow.
- To sort the list, click a column header, for example, the Full Name column sorts alphabetically by first name. By default, the list is sorted alphabetically, in ascending order.
- Search for users by entering a first or last name in the search box at the top of the page. The list automatically filters based on what you type.
- As of Spring ’19 external users appear in the user lookup for people who use Lightning Experience.

Your organization’s size determines what you see in the people list. For example, in the largest organizations, we don’t display any users until you start searching for a person’s name. We count all Salesforce user license types when calculating the approximate number of users, including internal users, Experience Cloud site users, and Chatter users.
Approximate number of users Defaults to view All People filter defaults to 25 or fewer All People Everyone in the organization 26 to 25,000 Recently Viewed People People whose profiles you recently viewed More than 25,000 Recently Viewed People No one until you start searching - Invite people to join your Chatter network. Invited users can view profiles, post on their feed, and join groups, but they can't see your Salesforce data or records.
- View the people that Chatter recommends that you follow. Click More in the Recommended People section to view all of your recommendations. If no recommendations appear, then you're already following all the recommended people.
Chatter, Profile, People, Groups, and Files tabs are available by default in the Chatter app. If you don’t see Chatter, you can open it using the App Launcher at the top-right corner of any page. If your administrator has added these tabs to other apps, you see the tabs in those apps unless you previously customized your display. In that case, you can add the tabs to those apps.
Not every Lightning Experience feature is in the Salesforce mobile app. Find out what’s different between desktop and mobile for People and Profiles. When using People to view profiles, you can’t:
- Edit profile information in Salesforce for iOS.
- Upload a profile photo using the Good Access™ secure mobile browser.
- Hover on user profile photos to quickly see user information.
- Use custom profiles.
- Filter the Following related list on your profile.
