Trends result from how often people add a topic to their feeds and comment on or like posts with the same topic. For example, let’s say your coworkers plan to attend an upcoming Dreamforce conference. They’ve started discussing it in Chatter. It’s likely that you see a trending topic for Dreamforce.
A trending topic is not solely based on popularity. Trends usually relate to a one-time or infrequent event that has a spike in activity, like a conference or a project deadline. For privacy reasons, Trending Topics don’t include topics that are used solely in private groups or record feeds.
