          Experience Cloud Glossary

Here are definitions to some key terms and concepts related to Experience Cloud.

          Experience Cloud
Salesforce Experience Cloud is a digital experience platform that makes it easy to build beautifully designed, CRM-powered online sites. What was formerly known as Community Cloud is now called Experience Cloud, to better reflect the many types of digital experiences you can create and connect.
          Experience Cloud Site
An Experience Cloud site is an online space for connecting with your customers, promoting collaboration, and streamlining key business processes.
          • Experience Builder sites, formerly called Lightning communities, are template-based sites that you customize in Experience Builder. These sites are built on one of two frameworks—Lightning Web Runtime (LWR) or Aura.
            • LWR sites are built with the latest LWR-based templates, such as the Build Your Own (LWR) and Microsites (LWR) templates. From Winter ’23, new LWR sites are hosted on the enhanced sites and content platform, and they’re referred to as enhanced LWR sites.
            • Aura sites are built with our original templates that run on Aura, such as Customer Service, Partner Central, and Customer Account Portal.
          • Visualforce sites, previously called Salesforce Tabs + Visualforce sites, are sites that you develop using Visualforce.
For clarity, we use the terms LWR sites, enhanced LWR sites, Aura sites, and Visualforce sites where possible to help you identify which features apply to your site. See also Enhanced Sites and Content Platform.
          Enhanced Sites and Content Platform
The enhanced sites and content platform is a flexible system that brings together Salesforce CMS and LWR sites. From Winter ’23, new LWR sites and CMS workspaces that you create are hosted together on this redesigned platform, which offers partial deployment, site content search, easy content management, and more.
To identify LWR sites that are hosted on the new platform, we use the term enhanced LWR sites. And for CMS workspaces, we use the term enhanced CMS workspaces.
See What Is the Enhanced Sites and Content Platform?
          Experience Builder
Experience Builder is used to design and build LWR and Aura sites using preconfigured templates and Lightning components. Use standard or custom components to create customized site pages without code.
          Experience Workspaces
Command central for administering your Experience Cloud site. From Workspaces you can access Experience Builder, manage content, configure site settings, and monitor your site. Community managers can view dashboards for groups, members, feed activity, and license usage, and manage the community’s reputation system. Moderators can see which items have been flagged for review.
          Community
The old term for what is now known as an Experience Cloud site. The new term better reflects the many types of digital experiences you can create.
          Framework
The codebase or technical platform on which your Experience Cloud site is built. You can build a site using one of three frameworks: Lightning Web Runtime (LWR), Aura, and Visualforce.
          Template
A predesigned set of solutions that help you quickly build a site that meets specific business needs. Templates are preconfigured with page layouts, components, and business processes designed to address common business scenarios. We have templates for customer self-service, help centers, and partner relationship management, as well as a build-your-own template that offers common pre-built pages to jump-start a custom site.
          External User
Any user logging in to an Experience Cloud site with an Identity license or Experience Cloud license.
          Guest User
Any user accessing an Experience Cloud site without logging in. Guest users are always unauthenticated.
          Salesforce CMS
The Salesforce Content Management System is a hybrid CMS where you can create, manage, and publish content from a centralized location. In the Digital Experiences app (previously called the Salesforce CMS app), you can share your content to Salesforce endpoints, such as Experience Cloud sites and marketing emails, or to external channels.
          CMS Workspace
You use CMS workspaces in the Digital Experiences app to create, organize, and share your content. Each workspace can have its own contributors, translation language settings, channels, content, and folders. See also Enhanced Sites and Content Platform.
          CMS Connect
A solution that connects external CMS content to your Experience Builder site for consistent branding, reuse of material, and ease of maintenance.
