          Scan Products in an Order

          Scan Products in an Order

You can add new products in an order by scanning a product's barcode. When you scan a product, the system increases the order quantity of the product by the value defined in the Scanning Increment field of the order item template. You can individually select the item template that's used for a new order item for each order by using the Settings option.

          Required Editions

Available in: Lightning Experience in Professional, Enterprise, and Unlimited Editions that have Consumer Goods Cloud enabled.

To scan barcodes by using a device's camera on tablet devices, on the order details screen, tap Scan Product. Or, on phone devices, from the main menu, tap Scan. For orders or deliveries, you can define different scan behaviors per item type and add products via scanning based on this setting. The different scan behaviors are:

          • Standard UOM: The system directly adds the product in the unit of measure (UoM) that's defined as the order unit of the product.
          • Current UOM: Update the Scan UoM field in the device by using one of these values:
            • Consumer Unit
            • Sales Unit
            • Pallet
            • Layer

If the defined scan UoM is a valid UoM for a product, then the system directly adds the product to the order in the scan UoM.

          • Barcode UOM: The system directly adds the product in the UoM that's defined in the scanned barcode.

Here are the considerations for barcode scanning:

          • Only the UoMs that have the Order Ability option selected are considered.
          • The European Article Numbering (EAN) code of a product's UoM, which is maintained in the GTIN field of the Unit of Measure related list of products, is used.

These scenarios can occur when you scan a product.

          Scenario Description
Barcode returns only one product record The system directly adds the product to the item list.
Barcode returns multiple product records The system shows the list of products, and you can select the required products from this list.
Barcode doesn’t return any product record The shows a warning message.

When you scan a product by using an external scanner or in-built mobile scanner, the system highlights it in the item list. Here's the summary of the scanning behavior.

Promotion is selected in the promotion filter and then
No Product doesn't exist in the list The system adds the product to the item list.
Product exists in the list The system highlights the existing product and increases the quantity based on the defined scan increment.
Yes Product exists in the list The system highlights the existing product and increases the quantity based on the defined scan increment.
Product doesn't exist in the list The system shows a validation message.

You can scan products based on the configurations, such as sales document assortment, historical, listing, and promotion settings, that are defined for order templates. Each order template can have multiple order item templates. Here's the impact of different configurations on the list of products that's shown in the order item template.
