Add Product Specification to the Reference Product Model
Products are also called a product specifications in Salesforce. A specification can be a single product or a product bundle with multiple child products. All these products are derived from the object types, and therefore inherit all the fields, attributes, and layout structures from the parent object.
Before You Begin
HomeElectricitySaver is a commodity product example you can use to understand the workflow for adding new products to the reference product model. Here is the structure of HomeElectricitySaver.
Add Commodity Product
Add a new commodity product specification to the reference product catalog.
In the reference product model, create Home Electricity Saver product with three cost components Unit Rate Day, Unit Rate Night, and Standing Charges:
- In the App Launcher, go to All Items and click Vlocity Product Designer.
-
Follow the instructions in Create Product Specifications in Product Designer to create products with field values listed below:
Note For Electricity, Gas, and Dual Fuel commodity products, enter the value Electricity, Gas, or Dual Fuel respectively in the Sub Type field. The Sub Type field is used to identify the type of product, which selects pricing calculations and flex cards that represent the hierarchy of the product. For example, the Dual Fuel product has two levels in its hierarchy: The first level of child products include Electricity and Gas. The second level of child products include Unit Rate and Standing Charges.
