App Alerts Overview
Use App Alerts to create notifications, define how and when they appear, and deliver them to the correct users. App Alerts centralizes all alerts in one place and helps users to take immediate action. The alerts appear directly within the Life Sciences Commercial app and Life Sciences Cloud Mobile app, keeping users informed without disrupting their workflow.

Types of Alerts
All alerts share a common framework but they’re categorized by where they appear and who they target. The two main categories are:
-
App Alerts: Versatile notifications that are delivered via the global notification bell or specific tabs. They use territory targeting to ensure that the right messages reach the right regional teams.
-
Record Alerts: Contextual notifications that are delivered via the notification bell icon. They appear directly on a record page to provide immediate, relevant insights while a user is actively working on that specific data point.
Both app alerts and record alerts are further categorized by their purpose into Notifications, Recommendations, and Guided actions. App alert has an additional subtype called Announcements.
| Type | Purpose | Where It Appears | Example |
| Notification | Used for general alerts or informational updates. Notifications surface relevant updates without elevating them to the level of recommendations. | Web and Mobile: Alerts tab | New Safety Update for Immunexis The Medical Affairs team has released updated prescribing guidance for Immunexis in patients 65+. Review before your next healthcare professional visit. Actions: View Updated Prescribing Information; Open Safety Summary |
| Recommendation | Used to highlight important opportunities or suggested next steps. Recommendations are designed to stand out more than standard notifications and guide users toward meaningful engagement actions. | Web and Mobile: Recommendations tab | Opportunity: Dr. Morita – Low Adoption of Immunexis Dr. Morita has 15 eligible patients but prescribed Immunexis only twice in the past 60 days. Based on prescribing data, a follow-up discussion on Immunexis efficacy may be beneficial. Actions: Create Visit; Send Email |
| Guided Action | Used to guide users through structured tasks or initiatives that should remain visible over time. Guided Actions often include multiple resources and deep links to support execution. | Web: Alerts tab Mobile: Guided Action tab |
Q2 Launch Excellence Program – Immunexis Expansion Corporate initiative to increase Immunexis adoption among Tier A cardiologists. Actions: View Target HCP List; Launch Sales Aid; Review Objection Handling Guide; Update Assessment Task |
| Announcement | Used for organization-wide communications, such as home office updates or internal announcements rather than territory-based delivery. Announcements appear on the home page for maximum visibility. Announcements are delivered via App Alerts, not Record Alerts. |
Web and Mobile: Announcements Lightning component on the home page | Q2 Sales Kickoff Announcement Join the upcoming kickoff session to learn about the Immunexis expansion strategy and territory priorities for the next quarter. |
Methods for Creating Alerts
You can create alerts for users in three ways, depending on your business needs.
- Manual Creation
Create App Alert and Record Alert records to configure alerts. For more information, see Create an Alert.
To control alert visibility and ensure that alerts reach the correct users, map each alert to one or more territories by creating App Alert Territory records. These records determine the target users by territory and the specific time period during which the alert remains visible. For a user to see an alert, make sure the user’s active territory matches the one set in the App Alert Territory records.
For more information about configuring visibility and sharing behavior, see Share App Alerts.
- Automated Creation
Automate alert delivery by triggering record alerts based on business logic or user activity. For example, configure rules by using Business Rules Engine to send alerts when an event status changes, or use Flow to deliver alerts automatically based on real-time context. See Create Record Alerts Using Business Rules Engine.
- External System Integration
If you have critical information stored outside of Salesforce, use this method to surface that data as an alert. See Show External System Record Alerts in Salesforce.
