Sustainability credits can be one of a variety of instruments used in proving positive environmental benefits, such as carbon credits, renewable energy certificates, and so on.

          1. From Carbon Credit Allocations, click New.
          2. Enter the name of the carbon credit allocation record.
          3. Select the annual emissions inventory record associated with the carbon credit allocation; or create an annual emissions inventory record. You must select an annual emissions inventory record that isn’t already associated with a carbon credit allocation record.
          4. Save your changes.

A record is created with annual emissions inventory information about the total emissions that must be offset and how the total emissions are calculated from scope 1, scope 2, and scope 3 emissions.

            Note
Note If you override the total scope 1, scope 2, or scope 3 emissions in the annual emissions inventory, the sum of associated emissions activities may not roll up correctly to their respective scopes. We recommend that you maintain the emissions at the emissions activity level because the carbon credit’s are allocated for individual emissions activity. Also, if you have a value for Supplemental Scope 3 Emissions in annual emission inventory, the total scope 3 emissions may not add up from the respective emissions.

For emissions related to each emissions activity, carbon credit allocation item records are automatically created.

          5. From the actions menu, click Allocate. The Allocate option is available only when you have at least one carbon credit allocation item record.
          6. On the Allocate Carbon Credits wizard:
            1. Select the emissions activities that you want to offset using carbon credits. The emissions activities are grouped by scope. Expand the scope to select a specific emissions activity, and click Next.
            2. Search for carbon credit projects using the project name or filter the sustainability credit records based on one of the filter values, such as region, country, mitigation type, or project type.
              Note
Note Only sustainability credits in Retired status are displayed for allocation on this page.

Select one or more sustainability credits that you want to use for offsetting, and click Next.

            3. Review the carbon credits that are automatically allocated to the selected emissions activities, and, if necessary, update the automatically allocated carbon credits, and click Finish.
          7. For carbon credit allocation related to each emissions activity, carbon credit distribution records are automatically created.
          8. The carbon credit allocation item records are automatically updated with the Total Carbon Credit Allocated (tCO2e) and Net Emissions (tCO2e) values.

To review the carbon credit allocation item and carbon credit distribution records, go to the Related tab.

          9. The net emissions are calculated as the difference between the total emissions and the total carbon credits allocated.
            Note
Note If you need to deallocate carbon credits that have already been allocated, you can create a carbon credit distribution record with negative emissions.
            Note
Note If an annual emissions inventory record is updated after the carbon credits allocation is completed, the updated emissions data is synchronized with carbon credit allocation item records. You can then go to the carbon credit allocation record to allocate additional carbon credits to offset the emissions.
