Conditions for Automatic Creation of Carbon Footprints
When an energy use record is created without the carbon footprint information, you can set the Net Zero Cloud configuration options to automatically assign or create a carbon footprint.

- When the Assign Carbon Footprint to Energy Use Records is enabled, the app finds
a relevant carbon footprint record that matches both the emissions source and the energy use
record start date and/or end date, and assigns the carbon footprint record to the energy use
record.
Note The energy use record start date and/or end date must be within the carbon footprint start date and end date and within the default reporting year setting. - If there’s no carbon footprint for the energy use record’s emissions source and
the energy use record start date and/or end date, and the Auto-Create Carbon Footprints
preference is enabled, then the app creates a carbon footprint and assigns it to the energy
use record.
These carbon footprint fields are automatically filled.
- Name: The name syntax is {STATIONARY_ASSET_ENVIRONMENTAL_SOURCE}_ CY/FY(based on the selected reporting year type)_YYYY
- Start Date: If the selected reporting year type is Fiscal Year, the start date is set based on the start date mentioned in the Company Information. If the selected reporting year type is Calendar Year, the start date is set to 1st January of the year for which the carbon footprint is created.
- End date: If the selected reporting year type is Fiscal Year, the end date is set to one year from the start date mentioned in the Company Information. If the selected reporting year type is Calendar Year, the end date is set to 31st December of the year for which the carbon footprint is created.
- Footprint Stage: If the automatically created carbon footprint is a Stationary Asset Carbon Footprint, Vehicle Asset Carbon Footprint, or Scope 3 Carbon Footprint, the footprint stage is set to Emission Source Confirmation. If the automatically created footprint is a Waste Footprint, the footprint stage is set to Waste Source Confirmation.
Here are some additional conditions depending on whether values exist for energy use record’s emissions source, the energy use record start date and/or end date, and the generated waste’s disposal site type:

The carbon footprints aren’t associated or created if
- The energy use record’s start date or end date spans two carbon footprints.
- There are multiple matching carbon footprints.
- The carbon footprint record includes custom required fields for which default values haven’t been set.
- The carbon footprint record includes custom validations that are failing.
If you bulk uploaded energy use records and your file includes multiple records for the same footprint year or reporting year:
- In non-concurrent mode, Net Zero Cloud creates one carbon footprint record and maps all energy use records for the same asset and reporting year to that footprint.
- In concurrent mode, Net Zero Cloud creates a separate carbon footprint for each energy use record processed concurrently. Energy use records processed subsequently aren't related to the footprint.
