Report and Reduce Your Carbon Footprint with Net Zero Cloud
Benchmark Building Energy Intensity Data

Benchmark Building Energy Intensity Data

Track and benchmark your building energy intensity (BEI) across various fuel types as a function of building size and geographic location. Use building energy intensities to track energy performance across your building assets and as a reference for filling data gaps. You can also use this data to help calculate a reliable and auditable carbon inventory, which leads to improved sustainability impact reporting.

Your Salesforce admin can configure these record types that you can use to apply different methodologies when averaging data to fill in data gaps:

  • Building energy intensity record type: For records created by computing average intensities of your buildings using energy consumption data.
  • Regional building energy intensity record type: For data obtained from external sources or standards bodies, such as the Commercial Buildings Energy Consumption Survey (CBECS) dataset produced by the U.S. Energy Information Administration.

For more information about configuring building energy intensity record types, see Set Up Record Types for Net Zero Cloud.

For building energy intensity records, you can calculate the average energy consumption by filtering the energy use records by the reporting date range, building size category, building asset type, and general location of your buildings.

Important
Important Only the user who created the records or who has Modify All Records access to the records can view or modify the record. Users who haven’t created the asset or energy use records can’t see those records in the lookup fields. To enable a user to view records created by other users, your Salesforce administrator must enable the View All Records or Modify All Records access for the user on the required objects. For more information about setting permissions, see Troubleshoot Object and Record Access Issues.

ts of measurement for building floor area, with support for both square feet (sqft) and square meters (m2). These units are used in the energy intensity values calculated in the building energy intensity record, showing both kWh/sqft/year and kWh/m2/year.

  • Regional Building Energy Intensity Data Records
Commercial Building Energy Consumption Survey (CBECS) data is packaged and integrated into Net Zero Cloud as the Regional Building Energy Intensity data records.
  • Create a Building Size Category Record
Building size categories provide ranges for the total building floor sizes across your stationary assets. BEI Builder uses the total building floor area to group your buildings into similar size categories. Before you create a building energy intensity record or use BEI Builder, ensure that you create at least one building size category record.
  • What’s BEI Builder?
BEI Builder guides you through the process of creating building energy intensity records in Net Zero Cloud for your commercial buildings.
  • Create a Building Energy Intensity Record
Create a building energy intensity (BEI) record for your commercial buildings. Net Zero Cloud uses the building location, size, date range, and asset type to calculate the building’s energy intensities.
  • Calculate Building Energy Intensities
The energy intensity values calculated for your commercial building records depend on the energy use records related to the building energy use records that match your building energy intensity record’s filters.
  • Lock a Building Energy Intensity Record
Building energy intensity records can be locked to ensure that they aren’t updated accidentally or by an automated process.
  • Recalculate a Building Energy Intensity Record
Recalculate your building energy intensity records whenever you update your data.
