If your org checks patient prerequisites for an appointment, a message alerts you if the patient doesn’t meet the required criteria.
If your org has appointment guidance, click it to walk through the steps of selecting the correct visit type and provider for a patient’s appointment. If you’re scheduling several related appointments, book all of them at once.
- From the patient’s account page or on a clinical service request page, open the Appointment Management console.
- If your console shows an appointment list, click Schedule Appointments.
- If your console shows the Single-Resource Appointment option, click Start Appointment Scheduling. This option is recommended if you want to schedule an appointment with one provider or one asset.
- Select a visit type. Ask your patient about the purpose of the appointment. The patient’s answer helps you choose the correct visit type.
- Verify the Scheduling Mode is set to Single Resource Appointment.
-
If your org is configured for provider and asset scheduling, select which resource to
schedule the appointment with.
To book multiple resources, for Scheduling Mode, select Multi-Resource Appointment. Or click Add Resources on a search result.
If you're scheduling a single resource, search results show the most suitable resources for the appointment.By default, provider results are sorted by recommended provider—assigned providers are shown at the top, followed by past providers, and then new providers. An assigned provider provides primary care to the patient. You set up the primary care provider designation in healthcare practitioner facility records. A past provider provided any other care to the patient. For a new patient, only new providers appear.
Note Up to 25 providers are shown on the first page. If your patient prefers a provider who doesn’t appear in the search results, use the left panel to search for them.If Einstein Discovery is set up, some visit times for providers are highlighted. The patient is most likely to attend their appointment at these times. Available times for assets aren’t highlighted. - Gather the patient’s preferences for day, time, provider or asset, and distance. By default, providers within 5 miles of the patient’s mailing address are shown.
- In Time Zone, select the patient’s time zone if it's different from your time zone.
- Select a time.
-
Narrow the search results by applying relevant filters.
Intelligent Appointment Management starts searching for available providers as soon as you enter a specialty, provider name, or facility name preference. It starts searching for available assets as soon as you select a work type and enter an asset preference other than asset category or facility address.
-
Review the new appointment.
To add non-bookable assets such as a wheelchair or cane to an appointment, select Add Assets. Then look up and select up to five assets.
Add extra details in the Comments field.
- Save your changes.
