Create a Stage Definition
Stage definitions specify the object and field used to configure Stage Management. Stage definitions form the foundation for Stage Management configurations. Create stage definitions for different record types by using templates.

- From Setup, find and then select Stage Definitions.

To create a stage definition, click New.

To create a stage definition from scratch, select New.
- Enter details such as name, developer name.
- Select a reference object.
- If necessary, select the record type.
- Select the reference object field.
- Enter a description.

Select a template to create a stage definition.
- Select an object to narrow down the list of available templates.
- If necessary, select a template to preview.
- Click Next.

Enter the details such as name and developer name, and then select the record
type.
Reference Object and Reference Object Field are prepopulated with the values from the template and can’t be modified.
- Click Next.
- In the New Record Stage column, select the stages that you want to map for the new definition.
- Save your changes and publish the stage definition.
- Set Up Stage Transitions
Specify the criteria and conditions to facilitate the transition between the business process stages. Use stage transition to configure stage movement from one stage to another. For example, to configure the stage management for customer onboarding, define the stage transition to move from the Application Intake stage to the Risk Screening stage. - Add Step Definitions
Use stage transition rules to add user access control and to define a transition plan for each stage and stage transition. Select the type of permissions to specify the users who can perform the stage transition. Add the criteria and conditions to run the step definitions. - Configure Criteria and Conditions for Child Objects
Enhance business process management by setting the criteria and conditions for the stage transitions of child objects to control the stage transitions of parent objects. - Use Expression Sets to Control Step Execution
Automate complex decision-making processes by using predefined logic in expression sets to determine whether a step definition must be executed or skipped. - Clone Stage Definitions
Create stage definitions for similar business processes applicable to different record types by cloning stage definitions. Clone a stage definition and map the stages from the existing definition to the new one.
