Create a Promotion Template
Create one promotion template and reuse the template with multiple promotions.

- From the App Launcher, find and select Promotion Templates.
- On the Promotion Templates page, click New.

Enter these details, and then save your changes.
Field Description Identification Promotion Template Name Name of the promotion template. Active Activates the template. You can use only active templates to create a promotion template. Promotion Type Type of promotion. Select Promotion. Record Type Category that you choose for a promotion. This field is auto-populated. Sort Numeric sorting definition of the template. Used, for example, to sort promotions in an ascending order in the Trade Calendar view. Sales Org Sales organization to which the promotion template belongs. After you create the promotion template, you can't edit this field. Description Description Language 1

Description Language 4
Description of the promotion template in the languages that you configured for the sales organization. The Description Language 1 field is mandatory. General Settings Anchor Type Node at which a promotion is negotiated. The options are:
- None
- Customer
- Customer Set
For the mega event template, select the Anchor Type as None because mega events are typically not anchored to any customer or customer set.
Active Policy Specifies whether a promotion that you created by using this template is initially active. UI Type Specifies the user interface that the system shows for the promotion. The options are:
- Standard UI: Shows all attributes of the selected promotion. You can select the associated tactics from the Tactics related list.
- Smart UI: Shows an overview of the selected promotion, the Promotion P&L view, associated tactics, and products on a single page. The system shows this information in two tab pages. For TPM, the UI Type must be Smart UI.
Timeframe Settings Timeframe Determination Policy Specifies the method of determining promotion dates.
The options are:
- Manual: Users define the promotion dates manually.
- Automatic Simple: The system determines the promotion shipment dates
automatically from the In-Store dates that you define during promotion
creation and the corresponding offset values that you define in the
promotion template. The system calculates the commit date of the promotion
and the overall period of the promotion and tactics in real time. The system
determines the promotion dates in this sequence:
- Determines the tactic timeframe.
- Determines the promotion timeframe.
- Determines the commit date of the promotion.
The default value is Manual.
You can select the value of this field as Automatic Simple only if the UI type is Smart UI and you disable the Synchronize Promotion Timeframes option for the promotion template.
Synchronize Promotion Timeframes Enable this option to specify that when you edit the promotion that uses this template.
If you change the Promotion Date From, the system sets the Shipment Date From and the In-store Date From dates to the Promotion Date From date.
If you change the Promotion Date Thru, the system sets the Shipment Date Thru and the In-store Date Thru dates to the Promotion Date Thru date.
Shipment Date From Offset Defines the offset days used to calculate the Shipment Date From of the promotions created using this template from the defined In-Store Date From. This field is applicable only if Timeframe Determination Policy is set to Automatic Simple.
You can enter only numeric values ranging from -90 through 90.
The default value is 0.
Shipment Date Thru Offset Defines the offset days used to calculate the Shipment Date Thru of the promotions created using this template from the defined In-Store Date Thru. This field is applicable only if Timeframe Determination Policy is set to Automatic Simple.
You can enter only numeric values ranging from -90 through 90.
The default value is 0.
Commit Date Offset Defines the offset days used to calculate the Commit Date of the promotions created using this template from the Date From of the promotion. This field is applicable only if Timeframe Determination Policy is set to Automatic Simple.
You can enter only numeric values ranging from -90 through 90.
The default value is 0.
Product Settings Product Definition Policy Specifies whether the promotion products change according to the changes in product master data. The options are:
- Dynamic: The system determines the promotion products by using filters and changes the promotion products according to changes in the product master data.
- Static: The promotion products are manually added and remain unaffected by changes in
the product master data.
Select one or more options from the Available list, and then click to move them to the Chosen list. By default, both Dynamic and Static options are selected.
Product Definition Level Specifies whether promotion products are defined at the promotion level or tactic level. Select an option from the dropdown list. Consider Account Product List Determines whether the system uses Account Product List to restrict the products that you consider for promotion planning. Consider Product KAM Status Specifies the promotion date or date range that you can use to determine the valid products for a promotion based on the KAM status time frame.
The options are:
- Promotion Commit Date: Ensure that the product has the commit date of the promotion within the time frame of the KAM status.
- Promotion Timeframe: Ensure that the product has at least one day of the promotion time frame (Date From – Date Thru) within the time frame of the KAM Status.
Note The default value is Promotion Commit Date.Auto Close On Filter Apply Indicates whether the Manage Products window of the promotions created using this template can be closed automatically on clicking the Apply button in the filter. While adding products to the promotion dynamically, that is, on applying the filters, the products matching the filter criteria are added to the promotion automatically. The user can’t exclude any product during this process.
This option is deselected by default, and you can select it only if you select Product Definition Level as Promotion and Product Definition Policy as Dynamic.
BOM Handling
Determines whether BOM products are considered in promotions created using this template. The options are:
- None: Indicates that the system considers BOM products as standard products for promotions
- Exclude BOMs: Indicates that the system doesn't consider BOM products for promotions
- Consider BOMs: Indicates that the system considers BOM products for promotions
The default value is None.
Important BOM handling exists only in promotion calculations. For all other calculations (Account Plan, CBP, Fund, RBF, RTR, and Claims), BOM products are treated as standard products.TPM Settings Use UI Contract Determines whether UI Contracts are used in the promotion Smart UI. If you select this option, projects can use UI Contracts to control the layout of the promotion or tactic UI. If you deselect this option, projects can use the default configuration or use customization to control the layout of the promotion or tactic UI.
This field isn’t applicable any longer. To customize Trade Promotion Management, configure smart UI Lightning Web Components (LWCs).
Pushable Indicates whether the promotions that you created using this template can be used for the push process. You can push promotions only if this option is selected.
You can select this option only if you added at least one non-pushable and active child promotion template to the template and selected Usage as Push.
If you select this option, ensure that you select:
- Anchor type of the template as Customer or Customer Set.
- UI type of the template as Smart UI.
- Promotion type of the template as Promotion.
For pushable promotion templates, ensure that you don't select the Enable Scenario Planning attribute.
Copyable Indicates whether the promotions that you created using this template can be copied. You can select this option only if you added the same promotion template as a child and selected Usage as Copy.
Note You can't make a copiable promotion template inactive.Display VPC Shows the Volume Planning card in the promotion. Sub Accounts Enabled Determines whether you enabled sub account planning for the promotions that you created by using this template.
Note Select this option only if you select the anchor type of the template as Customer.Display KPI Validations Only on Save Determines whether the system shows KPI validations only when you save the promotion in this manner:
- If you introduce a change in the KPI that results in validations and you select the value of this field as True, the system shows the stop icon. But, the system shows the popup message (including details about KPI validations) only when you click Save & Refresh or Done. You can hover over the icon at any time to review the errors.
- If you introduce a change in the KPI that results in validations and you select the value of this field as False, the system shows the stop icon and popup message (including details about KPI validations) immediately after the edit. In this scenario, the popup message shown is independent of the click of any button.
Note The default value is False.UI Contract UI Contract that's mapped to the promotion template. The system shows the layout of the promotion according to the UI Contract that you selected in the promotion template.
Derivable Indicates whether the promotions that you created using this template can be derived. You can select this option only if you added at least one active child promotion template as a child and selected Usage as Derive.
Note- You can't derive a child promotion template that's related to a pushable promotion template.
- For derivable promotion templates, ensure that you don't select the Enable Scenario Planning attribute.
Push Process Flow Determines the type of push process for the promotion. The options are:
- None: Not applicable.
- Calculate: Allows the push process to calculate child and parent promotions. When you select this process, the push process calculates child promotions and parent promotion, and updates the Promotion P&L view of both child and parent promotions.
- Distribute And Calculate: Allows the push process to additionally distribute manual inputs (from VPC and SPC) of the parent promotion across the account hierarchy. When you select this option, the push process calculates child promotions, distributes the parent promotion's manual edits to the child promotions, calculates child promotions (after distribution of manual edits), calculates parent promotion, and updates the Promotion P&L view of both child and parent promotions.
The default value is None.
If the promotion template is pushable, you can't select the value of this field as None. If you select the value of this field as Distribute And Calculate for a parent promotion template and you select the usage of the child promotion template that's assigned to that parent promotion template as Push, ensure that the Available Product Levels value that you selected in the promotion template of the parent promotion and the child promotion are the same.
Display SPC Shows the Spend Planning card in the tactics of the promotion. Enable Fund Card in Promotion Determines whether the system shows the Tactic Funds card for promotions that you created by using this template.
The default value is True.
Mass Copy Start Date Controls how the system determines the dates of new promotions when you copy promotions by using the mass-copy process. The options are:
- None: Indicates that this field is empty. If you select this option, then the system automatically uses Weekday as the fallback value.
- Date: Selects the dates of target promotions as the same day and month as that of the corresponding dates of the source promotion, with the year value incremented by one.
- Weekday: Increments the dates of the source promotion by 364 days and selects the incremented values as the corresponding dates of target promotions.
The default value is Weekday.
Enable Condition Creation Determines whether a tactic anchored to the promotion template can generate tactic product conditions.
If you’ve enabled condition creation, configure product-level mapping. If product-level mapping isn’t configured, promotions that are created using the promotion template won’t show in the Advanced Promotions page.
The default value is False.
Time intervals for KPIs Specify the time intervals you can view and edit in a promotion. The options are:
- Quarter
- Month
- Week
View and edit different promotion types in different time levels. For example, you can select weekly or monthly views for short-term promotions, and monthly or quarterly views for long-term agreements.
To view intervals in months and quarters, enable View and Edit for Months and Quarters in your sales organization.
Show Clear All in Manage Products Controls the visibility of Clear All in Manage Products for Promotions. Enabled by default. Trade Calendar Trade Calendar Relevant Determines whether the promotions created using this template are shown in the Trade Calendar view.
The options are:
- Yes
- No
- Default
Note While you create a Promotion Type filter, only the active promotion templates for which you select the option as either Yes or Default are available for selection. Users can select one or more templates from the list.Trade Calendar Color Determines the color that the system uses to represent the promotion in the Trade Calendar view. Calculation Settings Calculation Configuration KPI set that's associated with the promotion template. The file controls the display, calculation, and aggregation of the Key Promotion Indicators (KPI) of the promotions that you created by using the template.
You can associate only the KPI sets of the usage Promotion to a promotion template.
Available Product Level Product levels are available in the:
- Volume Planning card
- Spend Planning card
- Product level filter of the Promotion P&L view
- Spend Planning tab of the claim tactic grid
From the Available list, select a level, and then click to move it to the Chosen list. The options are:
- Category
- Sub Category
- Brand
- Sub Brand
- Product Price Group
Note- You can select up to four product levels for each promotion template.
- You can determine and store the Effective Brands attribute of a promotion or tactic only when you include the product-level brand in Available Product Levels of the promotion template.
- Include Brand or Category to ensure that brand and category level funds are available for selection in the Fund Template of a tactic.
- Include Category to ensure that Account Category Fund Template is available for a tactic.
Calculation Mode Specifies the values for the calculation mode of the promotions that you created using this template. The options are:
- No: The system doesn't calculate the promotions that you created using this template.
- Ad hoc: The system calculates the promotions that you created using this template when they’re opened.
- Writeback: The system calculates the promotions that you created using this template and writes them back.
Note If the Anchor Type of a promotion template is Customer Set, ensure that you select the calculation mode as either No or Ad hoc.Displayed Product Level Specifies the product levels that the system shows in the Volume Planning and Spend Planning cards.
The options are:
- Category
- Sub Category
- Brand
- Sub Brand
- Product Price Group
Note- You can select only the options that you selected in the Available Product Level field.
- You can select up to four product levels for each promotion template.
Additional Custom Main KPI Subsets Determines the additional KPI subsets that the system loads when you open the promotion, if you selected the Subset Load Optimization option for the sales organization.
The options are:
- Planning
- Monitoring
- Finance
- Retailer
- Broker
- VPC
- SPC
- Promotion Scenarios
- SPC Lump sum
- SPC PR
- Adjustment (Adjustment KPIs in scenario planning)
For improved performance while loading KPI subsets, select up to two options at a time from the list.
Used Reference Date Defines the date that the system uses as reference to resolve the product hierarchy for the product condition search and to determine the aggregation levels in the Promotion P&L view. The options are:
- Commit Date: The system uses the commit date of the promotion to resolve the product hierarchy for promotion calculation.
- Today: The system uses the current date to resolve the product hierarchy for promotion calculation.
The default value is Commit Date.
Promotion Scenario Settings Enable Scenario Planning Enables scenario planning for the promotion.
Note You can enable Scenario Planning only if you haven't selected the Pushable and Derivable options.Promo Phases Cleaning Determines whether to delete the tactics that you didn't include in a promotion based on the promotion phase. The options are:
- Preparation
- Planning
- Modeling
- Committed
- For Approval
- Canceled
You can select one or more options from the picklist. The default values are Committed and Canceled.
After a promotion reaches any of the specified phases, the system disables scenario planning and deletes all inactive scenarios.

Used to select the adjustment KPI that's shown in the Scenario Planning card. A KPI definition is available for selection if it satisfies all these criteria. Ensure that the KPI definition is:
- Included in the KPI set that's associated with the promotion template.
- Either of the record type: Editable or Editable Calculated.
- Of the object scope that's tactic-independent.

Shows the description of the KPI definition (Adjustment KPI 1/2/3) that you specify while adding the KPI definition to the KPI set. This field is auto-populated and can’t be edited. - From the App Launcher, find and select SF Data Sync.
