Why Using Person Accounts with Vlocity Is Discouraged

Why Using Person Accounts with Vlocity Is Discouraged

Vlocity discourages the use of PersonAccount objects for tracking customer relationships. In Salesforce, Contacts cannot be directly associated with a PersonAccount. In addition, Contacts without a direct Account are considered Private Contacts and are only visible to the user that created them.

For the individual and family plan market, Vlocity best practice is to use the Salesforce core objects Account and Contact and their linked relationship AccountContactRelation for storing customer data. The Account object records the customer relationship and the Contact object records the subscriber and their dependents. Vlocity provides the PersonContactId__c field on the Account object, which identifies the subscriber Contact among the other Contacts.

Using regular Account and Contact objects allows a Contact to participate in more than one customer relationship. For example, a subscriber can be a dependent of a different subscriber, directly associated with the Account that establishes their own customer relationship and indirectly associated with other Accounts through the AccountContactRelation object.

For more information, see Considerations for Using Person Accounts in the Salesforce help.

          Note

Vlocity does not certify the use of Person Accounts with its Communications, Media and Energy product, because it uses account hierarchies, which Salesforce does not support with Person Accounts.
