Enable Transcription of Virtual Calls

Virtual Calls use Amazon Transcribe or Amazon Transcribe Medical to provide real-time audio transcriptions. These text captions can be displayed in the video interface to improve accessibility.

This feature requires Amazon Transcribe, an AWS service that converts speech-to-text for many languages. Visit the Amazon Transcribe website for information and pricing. You pay-as-you-go based on the seconds of audio transcribed per month. Amazon Transcribe Medical, which accurately translates medical speech, is also supported, but only for US English.

  1. From Setup, in the Quick Find box, enter Video, and then select Video Call Configuration.
  2. Click New Video Call Configuration or Edit next to an existing configuration.
  3. Skip the Storage Bucket Name field, it is currently not used.
  4. Choose the Speech Analysis Service type.
Transcribe Medical currently is only supported for US English.
  5. Save your changes.

During the video call, click the transcription icon to see real-time text-to-speech transcription at the bottom of the video interface.
