Create Extended Reward Definitions

Create Extended Reward Definitions

Channel managers can design diverse reward types for the company's referral program, including payout comissions for both advocates and referred parties. With extended rewards, channel managers get the flexibility to adjust reward values at runtime and control when rewards are issued. Use services like Flows or Apex to define processes for integrating with external downstream rewarding systems.

Here are a few business scenarios where channel managers can create extended reward definitions to reward advocates and their referred parties: 6 months hands on Training on the collab platform.

Business Scenario Extended Reward Example
A growing SaaS company offering a project management and collaboration platform, aims to accelerate enterprise-level adoption by targeting IT consulting firms and system integrators. They decide to leverage partners' existing relationships to gain more business customers.

For the partner (advocate):

  • Type: Commission on Subscription Value

For the referred party:

  • Type: Hands-on Training
Partner refers a company resulting in a $100,000 annual subscription. Partner receives a 5% commission. The referred party benefits from free access to 6 months hands-on training on the collab platform.
A specialized robots manufacturing company seeks to encourage existing partners to advocate for products within their ecosystem.

For the partner (advocate):

  • Type: Website Branding

For the referred party:

  • Type: Extended Warranty
Partner refers a company leading to a new bulk robotic arm purchase. Partner receives free website branding for 6 months. The referred party gains a 1 year extended warranty.
A company specializing in SEO and content marketing for e-commerce aims to expand its client base by rewarding partners for referrals. If a partner has done business worth more than $8000 in the last year, they receive a 5.5% discount; otherwise, they receive a 4.5% discount.

For the partner (advocate) and referred party:

  • Type: Discounted Service Bundle
When a partner refers a company, both receive a discounted content marketing package. In this case, the partner had engaged in business worth more than $8000, so they receive a 5.5% discount.
A luxury hotel group seeks to expand its corporate event and group booking clientele through partner referrals from event planning agencies. They offer tiered rewards based on the total value of the referred booking.
  • For partner: Commission on Referral Value
  • For referred party: Discounted package
When a partner refers a company for an event, if the total booking opportunity is over $15,000, the referring agency receives a 8% commission on the net booking value, and the referred company receives a 8% discount on their event package. For bookings under $15,000, the referring agency receives a 5% commission, and the referred company receives a 5% discount.

Here are a few things to consider when you create extended reward definitions:

  • Unit Cost—The expense incurred by the company to provide one reward.
  • You can define extended rewards, but you must set up external systems to implement them. Use services like Flows or Apex to create processes for integrating with external downstream reward systems.
  • You can set up processes to determine criteria for offering advocates or their referred party additional rewards. If they meet these criteria, you can provide higher payouts or extra rewards.
  1. On the Extended Rewards Definitions related list of your referral program, click New.
  2. Define your reward, and select Active.
Make sure that the correct program name is selected on the Source Reference field.
  3. Save your changes.
