Mapping Your Source Data in Marketing Cloud Intelligence

Mapping Your Source Data in Marketing Cloud Intelligence

Mapping connects the source fields in your uploaded file to the corresponding Marketing Cloud Intelligence fields. Intelligence uses machine learning algorithms to map your data. The mapping process is similar regardless of which method you use to upload your data, with some minor differences. If you’re using an API connector to upload your data, Marketing Cloud Intelligence automatically maps the fields for you, but you can make changes to the mapping. If you’re using TotalConnect, Intelligence identifies the most suitable data stream type according to your data and offers an initial mapping suggestion.

          • View How Your Data Is Mapped in Marketing Cloud Intelligence
On the mapping page, you can see all the fields that were mapped and unmapped in your data stream.
          • Map a Source Field to a Marketing Cloud Intelligence Field
Map source fields to Marketing Cloud Intelligence fields to connect the data and create a match between your source data and Marketing Cloud Intelligence.
          • Change the Data Stream Type
All data in Marketing Cloud Intelligence is categorized using data steam types. A data stream type is assigned automatically when data is uploaded. For example, if the data includes advertising data, such as clicks, impressions, and campaigns, Marketing Cloud Intelligence applies the Ads data stream type. You can change the data stream type if it isn’t correct, or use a different type.
          • Customize a Field
You can customize an existing data model field.
          • Use the Formula Editor to Map
You can apply formulas directly to your field mappings to perform complex manipulations of your data. The formulas are intuitive and use a similar syntax found in Excel. For more complex manipulations, you can also use MVEL, a Java-based expression language. You apply formulas during the mapping stage when creating data streams.
          • Mapping Actions
There are some handy actions you can apply when mapping. Some appear in the toolbar, while others can be found in the More Actions dropdown list.
          • Reach Data in Marketing Cloud Intelligence
Reach represents the number of unique visitors exposed to your content over a specified time period. Reach differs from impressions, which includes multiple views by the same visitor.
          • Mapping Validations
TotalConnect and API data streams offer enhanced mapping validations during the Map to Model stage of data ingestion. The mapping validations allow you to check if there are errors or irregularities with your mapping. They also provide details on how you can rectify errors.
          • Mapping a File With No Date Column
To map a file with measurement data in Marketing Cloud Intelligence Platform, the file must contain a date column. The platform automatically identifies and pulls date information. If a date isn’t included the file can’t be uploaded.
          • Mapping Formulas
Use the mapping formula editor to apply formulas directly in your mapping fields. Using functions in your mapping formulas, such as text and date functions, allows you to perform more complex manipulations to your data.
          • Date Format Syntax
When setting up date formats in TotalConnect, you may need to convert textual data to dates using formulas. The PARSEDATE function can be used for the conversion. The function receives text containing the date information, and an expression that specifies how to construct the date using the text.
          • Formula Operators
A formula is a mathematical relationship or rule expressed in symbols. With Marketing Cloud Intelligence, you can use formulas to create calculated measurements and dimensions when mapping your data. Operators specify the type of calculation to perform on the terms in a formula—such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, or division.
          • Mapping Functions in Marketing Cloud Intelligence
Functions are used when creating mapping formulas, allowing you to perform complex manipulations to your data. These functions are available in Marketing Cloud Intelligence and are divided into different groups to easily search for the function you’re looking for.
          • Control Flow Operators
Marketing Cloud Intelligence supports an assortment of control flow operators, so you can perform advanced scripting operations. Aside from the custom functions that are supported in the formula editor, you can write formulas based in C and Java Script syntax to make more complex decisions.
          • Mapping Geolocation Dimensions in Marketing Cloud Intelligence
Geolocation refers to the geographical location of an internet-connected device. Found from the user's IP address, geolocation includes information about the device user's location, such as country, region, and city. After you map geolocation, you can create a Map widget so that you can see performance broken down by region.
